Tips & Strategy
Habits that win games, from your first match to team fights. Each hero page has hero-specific tips too.
Your first matches
- Pick an easy hero first: Kael, Gorr or Kaito up front, Ember or Lyra for damage, Sol or Miko to heal. Each hero page shows a difficulty rating.
- Try your hero in the Practice dojo in the lobby before you queue. You start at level 25 with lots of souls, so you can try the whole kit.
- Buy the ⭐ Recommended items in order. Don't worry about custom builds until you know the game.
- Stay near your minions. Fighting alone in an enemy lane is how most deaths happen.
- Read the ability tooltips (hover them). They show real damage and what each point adds.
Laning
- Last-hit minions. Souls from last hits are most of your income in the first 10 minutes.
- Don't stand under an enemy tower unless your minions are taking the hits. Tower damage ramps up the longer it shoots you.
- Watch the minimap. If an enemy laner disappears, they may be coming to your lane: play safer for a bit.
- Use your dash (Shift) to escape, not just to chase. It has a 7s cooldown.
- Recall (H) when you're low or have enough souls for your next item. Walking back is slow; dying is slower.
Team fights
- Tanks go first. Damage heroes stay behind the tank and hit whatever is in range.
- Focus the same target. Six people hitting six different enemies lose to six people hitting one.
- Don't use your ultimate on a single low-HP enemy who's already dying. Save it for when it changes the fight.
- Ping (G) before you engage so your team knows to follow.
- Fight near your towers when you're behind, and near objectives when you're ahead.
Objectives and the map
- After you win a fight, take an objective: a tower, the Mammoth or Rex, a Soul Vault. A kill is worth less than what it lets you take.
- Soul Vaults open 4 minutes in and get more valuable every minute. Late in the game they're worth a lot to the whole team.
- Killing a Moon Watcher reveals every enemy for 20 seconds: take it right before a fight or an objective.
- Use the teleporters to switch between top and bottom fast, but remember the enemy can hear them.
- Late in the game minions are much stronger. A lane nobody defends will reach your base on its own.
By role
- Tank: start fights, stand between the enemy and your carries, and buy health and resists. You're doing your job if the enemy wastes abilities on you.
- Bruiser: fight up close and win long trades with lifesteal. Dive the enemy backline once their crowd control is used.
- Assassin: wait. Let the fight start, then jump on a weakened carry and get out.
- Mage: land your control (slows, stuns, pulls) first, then your damage. Stay at max range.
- ADC: your damage wins late fights. Stay behind your tank, keep attacking, and never be the closest hero to the enemy.
- Support: keep your carry alive, heal the fight, and place Ward Totems so your team can see.
Common mistakes
- Chasing a low enemy into their tower or into fog.
- Sitting on lots of souls. Spend them: items are power.
- Everyone farming different lanes when the enemy groups up. If the enemy is together, be together.
- Using your dash to start a fight and then having nothing to escape with.
- Leaving early. A bot takes your hero, and objectives only count if you finish the match.
